Day 4 - Sunday, July 8th

On the road - to Custer SD! Our travels were off to a rough start when our GPS didn't find Custer, SD. (Read on to later posts to discover why!) With an iPhone app to the rescue, we were soon on our way. A brief stop at the Wyoming Welcome Center, where I thought I saw our first buffalo - turned out it was just a cow.

We made it to Custer, SD and were very excited to check out the house. The kids immediately fell in love with the pinball and arcade game - and the fact they were both free - no begging for quarters from mom! It was a beautiful old historic home which was perfect for our time in Custer.

We decided to walk to dinner. As we walked down mainstreet, we discovered painted buffalo statues on every corner - Madison and Hollie posed with EVERY one. We finally made Logan pose in one of the pictures, much to his dismay.

Day 3 - Saturday, July 7th

Today we explored some more in Denver. We started out at the Colorado Railroad Museum. It was really neat to walk around and explore all of the old train cars. Madison went on every train possible! We also got to ride a piece of history - the Galloping Goose - an old car that had been modified as a train car.

After exploring all of the trains, we went in search of Buffalo Bill's grave. We gave up before finding it, but found one of the most beautiful views!

After admiring the view and a short hike on the mountain, we went in search of a dinosaur trail. Once again, we were unable to find it - so we went to the Hammonds Candy Factory and Store instead. We were able to watch the process of how candy canes are made - and get some free samples! Yum!! (Mom also indulged on a dark chocolate bar - VERY YUM!)

We ended the evening with dinner at a new restaurant - Uno's Chicago Grill. It was then time to start packing up for Sunday's drive to Custer, SD.
Day 2 - Friday, July 6th

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we headed out to explore Denver. Our first stop was the Aquarium. We enjoyed exploring the aquarium ... Madison especially enjoyed the large aquariums and hunting for different types of fish. We got to see two "real" mermaids, and the girls got to take pictures with them! (Logan decided he was too cool for that photo opp!)

After the aquarium, we thought we were going on a train ride by the river to learn the history of Colorado. Instead, we were driven in a little trolley along a sidewalk - it was amusing.

We headed back to the hotel and enjoyed some time at the pool ... the kids enjoyed showing off their tricks for Chris. I enjoyed sitting by the pool and relaxing and NOT worrying about what the kids were doing!

We ended the day with a couple of games, including the infamous Settlers challange - which Chris won.
Day 1 - Thursday, July 5th

We were so excited to all get to Denver! Renee and the kids arrived by car, checked in to the hotel and then eagerly awaited Chris' arrival from the airport. Since we were all tired from traveling, we enjoyed a quick supper at Applebee's and then a family game of Phase 10. We were so happy to finally be together again!

Palumbos on the Geaux

Our family is about to embark on a 3-week adventure ... We will travel from Texas to New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota and Montana. The most exciting part will be that Chris is joining us some where along the way! I'll be posting pictures and notes about our journey!
